Local artist helps Seattle sports fans show heel-to-toe spirit

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Tucked away in the back corner of Novato Shop & Studio in Bellingham, Logan McQuaig is hard at work.

"I usually get five or six hours in everyday, or six days a week while I'm here," McQuaig said as he dipped his brush in for more paint.

McQuaig's inspiration: Seattle sports. His canvas: shoes.

"It's just a different way for people to root and have it be specific to them," said McQuaig. "It's literally one of a kind."

McQuaig has painted "The Tip," Felix Hernandez's perfect game, and of course, immortalized the Seahawks win in Super Bowl XLVIII.

"I went to the Super Bowl and I thought, what better way to celebrate than getting something I can wear around town," said Ryan Caillier.

As a Seahawks superfan, Caillier commissioned a pair of McQuaig's shoes. He wears Russell Wilson on his right foot and the Lombardi Trophy on his left.

"There are crazy, crazy people who go to games," Caillier said. "There are real good fans out there, but at the same time, there's no unique stuff anymore. To have something custom made for you is pretty cool."

Each pair of shoes takes McQuaig anywhere from 8 to 20 hours to finish. Once he's done with a painting -- he's done with it.

"I won't do the same pair twice," McQuaig said. "Every time I put something like that online, everybody wants the exact same pair. I can't and won't."

The next time there's a big moment in Seattle sports, McQuaig will definitely be watching.

He'll also be waiting patiently -- paint brush in hand.nd.
