Are you taking advantage of student discounts?

July 3, 2019

Most college students are on a tight budget. Student discounts are an easy way to save on all sorts of things, including clothing, electronics, media and travel.

"Every student should take advantage of student discounts. There are a lot of them out there," said Edgar Dworksy, consumer advocate and founder of ConsumerWorld.org. "Just ask; you may be surprised at the amount of money you could save. And keep in mind, you're going to have to wait another 45 years until you become a senior citizen to get the next round of discounts."

You can find student discounts at online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores. Here are a few examples Consumer Reports found:

College students get a 15% discount on full-price items from Banana Republic.

They can get 15% off online purchases at J. Crew and Levi's.

Apple offers college students and those who've been accepted, and their parents, "educational pricing" on all Mac computers and iPads.

Lenovo gives a 5 percent discount on new laptops.
