Rare medical condition leaves woman unable to hear men's voices
XIAMEN, China (WSET) -- A woman in China recently lost her ability to hear men's voices from a rare condition!
According to WRIC, the woman woke up one day and suddenly couldn't hear her boyfriend's voice.
They immediately went to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a rare condition called reverse-slope hearing loss, or RSHL.
According to the Thigpen Hearing Center, out of every 12,000 cases of hearing loss, only one case has this specific condition.
People who are diagnosed with RSHL have trouble hearing low frequency sounds, like men's voices.
“She was able to hear me when I spoke to her, but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn't hear him at all,” said Lin Xiaoqing, the doctor who treated the woman said to the Daily Mail.
The woman told her doctor that she had been very stressed and not sleeping enough, which could have led to the sudden hearing loss.
She also said she was feeling nauseous and heard a ringing sound before she went to bed the previous day.
Her doctors say she should make a full recovery.
