Why job referrals can be a doubled-edged sword

SEATTLE, Wash. -- When it comes to landing a good job, knowing the right person can make a big difference. But it turns out, companies that rely too heavily on referrals may wind up with a less diverse workforce. That’s the conclusion of a recent study by PayScale, a Seattle-based company that tracks compensation.
