OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
A Baker couple was arrested after authorities found them passed out in a vehicle with a toddler nearby. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) said syringes, methamphetamine and Oxycodone was within the child's reach.
According to an arrest report, a deputy found 23-year-old Amanda Hatton and 31-year-old Jared Smith passed out at Tom Thumb on West James Lee Boulevard in a white pickup truck with Mississippi tags. That truck had been the subject of an attempt to identify bulletin in reference to a theft, the report states.
Drugs and uncapped needles were on the center console in plain view, according to the arrest report. The toddler was sleeping in the back seat while the pair had been unresponsive for nearly two hours, according to the arrest report.
According to the report, Hatton admitted that she used the narcotic Dilaudid intravenously before arriving to the gas station and that she passed out while Smith pumped the gas. Both are charged with child neglect, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
