5 children en route to Disney World among 7 killed in fiery Florida crash

Alachua County Fire Rescue

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) — Authorities say seven people, including five children on their way to Disney World, are dead and seven more are injured after a fiery crash on I-75 southbound in Florida between Alachua and Gainesville.

The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. Thursday. A semi truck and a sedan heading north collided and drove through the guardrail, the center median and into the southbound lanes.

Troopers say the semi collided with the van and another semi heading south. Both semi trucks caught fire while the van overturned, ejecting multiple people.

Troopers say both truck drivers died. No names have been released as troopers say they're working to confirm next of kin for everyone in person.

Authorities say the massive fire resulted from the spill of 50 gallons of diesel fuel.

According to police, most of those who died were in the van, including children and adults. The crash caused massive delays, shutting down all lanes for several hours Thursday.
