Wrong-way driver causes head-on crash in Auburn

AUBURN, Wash. -- Three people were taken to the hospital early Monday morning following a head-on collision in Auburn that involved six vehicles.

At about 3 a.m., a crash was reported on westbound state Route 18 near C Street Southwest, blocking all westbound lanes. Washington State Patrol responded and determined that six total vehicles were involved in a crash caused by a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. One of the vehicles reportedly rolled over during the collision.

A 16-year-old boy was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to Washington State Patrol. A 23-year-old man and 40-year-old man were taken to local hospitals. It is unclear the extent of the injuries at this time.

The other four people involved in the incident were reportedly not injured.

The State Patrol is investigating the incident for vehicular assault. It is also unclear why the driver was in traveling in the wrong direction.
