Worker dies after fall in Sound Transit East Link extension construction site
REDMOND, Wash. -- A man died early Tuesday morning after falling in a construction site while working on Sound Transit's East Link light rail extension project from Bellevue to Redmond.
According to the Bellevue Fire Department, the man fell about 35 feet from a column in the work zone along State Route 520 near 148th Ave. NE around 3 a.m. Sound Transit said girders were being placed at this stage in the project, although it's unclear exactly what caused the worker to fall during Tuesday's work session.
Fire crews responded and performed CPR, but the victim died after being transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Washington State Patrol also responded for investigation.
Workers were scheduled to regularly work in that zone from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
