KENT - Kent police are investigating a crash that killed a mother who was pushing her children in a stroller.
An SUV hit the woman in a crosswalk at Smith Street and State Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
According to witnesses, the woman did everything right. She is seen walking in the crosswalk moments before an SUV turns the corner and hits her.
"I feel so sad,” said witness Gerardo Pacheco Flores. “The two babies were exactly in the same place, but the lady, oh my God that was terrible."
Flores said one minute he saw the woman pause before crossing with her babies, a few minutes later, there was heart-wrenching commotion.
"A lot of people was crying,” said Flores. "The police was helping the babies. Oh my God that was terrible. I don't want to see that again."
Police said the driver didn't see the mom and witnesses said the driver looked elderly.
Somehow, police said the children weren't hurt in the crash that killed their mom.
"I think it's a miracle,” said Flores.
Witnesses said the intersection is getting more dangerous, saying many crashes have happened there.
Flores said, "I see a lot of accidents even on this corner, too."
Police don't think drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash but they are still investigating.
