DES MOINES, Wash. - A woman in her 30s was rushed to the hospital after she drove her car into the frigid waters off the Redondo Beach boat launch, police say.
Witnesses say the woman drove her car into the water at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, with the windows down. The car ended up about 150 feet off shore in water about 10 to 15 feet deep.
A bystander and a Des Moines police officer were the first ones on the scene. They attempted to rescue the woman, but the car was too far out and too deep.
Rescue swimmers quickly responded from South King Fire and were able to pull the woman out of the car about 10 or 15 minutes after she went in.
She was brought to shore unconscious, but medics were able to resuscitate her. She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition.
Meanwhile, divers worked to get a tow line on the car and pull it from the water.
