Where to drop off your trash in western Washington as Republic Services workers strike

Trash collectors and other workers with Republic Services went on strike in Thurston County this week, vowing to stay off the job until they receive better pay, benefits, and working conditions.

While the main strike started in Lacey, it has led to a ripple effect of work stoppages impacting trash collections in Bellevue, Edmonds, Renton, Kent, Lynnwood and parts of unincorporated King and Snohomish counties.

Below is a list of locations listed on the Republic Services website as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday where impacted customers can drop off garbage:

Bellevue

Residents are asked to have materials in bags.

Clyde Hill Elementary School parking lot

This location is for customers in Beaux Arts, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Medina and Yarrow Point.

Additional details:

  • Please have material in bags
  • No bulky items like mattresses, toilets, appliances, etc. will be accepted
  • Republic Services will be on site to assist

Kent

Canyon Ridge Middle School

Showare Center

Additional details:

  • Bagged garbage will be accepted at no cost.
  • Bulky waste nor construction waste will not be collected at the event.
  • Please bring ID or Republic Services invoice for City of Kent customers

Sammamish

Building 120 (formerly CWU Sammamish)

Additional details:

  • Please have material in bags
  • No bulky items like mattresses, toilets, appliances, etc. will be accepted
  • Please stay in single-file line and stay in your vehicle unless instructed otherwise by staff
  • Vehicles not in line at least 30 minutes before drop-off closing may be turned away
  • Republic Services will be on site to assist.

Lake Forest Park

Lake Forest Park City Hall

Additional details:

  • Residents can also drop off compostables and recycling at the City Hall location
  • Please have your material in bags
  • Republic Services will be on site to assist.

Monroe

Monroe Municipal Campus

Additional details:

  • Use the main Monroe Municipal Campus entrance off Main Street
  • Staff will direct customers where to place bagged garbage

Snohomish

Snohomish Public Works Yard

Additional details:

  • The event is for city of Snohomish residents only; proof of residency (such as a utility bill or current ID) will be required
  • Only bagged household trash accepted
  • Recycling, compost and non-household waste (appliances, scrap metal, furniture, etc.) will NOT be accepted
  • City staff will be onsite to coordinate traffic flow

Republic Service said on its website it will “collect garbage, recycling and compostables as soon as circumstances permit and double the amount of garbage on your next regularly scheduled service day at no additional charge (as soon as circumstances permit).”
