Water main break gouges sinkholes under Mountlake Terrace streets
MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. - A water main break has carved out two sinkholes and closed streets in Mountlake Terrace along the King-Snohomish County line.
Crews responded to the scene before 7 a.m. Thursday after the break was discovered in an old cast iron water main that serves a neighborhood near 244th Street.
The water main was shut down, but not before it gouged out two sinkholes and undermined the pavement along a stretch of 244th Street and 205th Street.
Road closures include 244th Street SW between 45th Avenue West and Cedar Way in Mountlake Terrace, and 205th Street NE between 33rd and 37th avenues in Lake Forest Park.
Both streets are expected to be closed until Friday morning and possibly longer.
Crews are working to repair the streets and restore water service to residents of of 43rd Avenue West.
