DES MOINES, Wash. - A water main break early Tuesday morning damaged at least four homes and flooded a neighborhood in the North Hill area of Des Moines.

Dozens of homes in a six-block area are now without water service as crews work to fix the broken main.

It's unknown what caused the water main to break. It was reported just before 2:30 a.m. near South 212th Street and 4th Avenue South in Des Moines.

The gushing water also caused a minor landslide that blocked part of 1st Avenue South to the west of that block as well.

South King Fire and Rescue and Des Moines police responded along with the Highline Water District to help control the damage and the flooding.

The water has been shut off in the area. Officials said there it's not yet known how long it will take to restore service.
