SEATTLE -- One of the longest ships to have traveled through the Ballard Locks and into Lake Union is taking another journey through the Locks on Thursday.
Commissioned in 1959, the USS Turner Joy is a destroyer that was involved in the Gulf of Tonkin incident which heightened U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War in 1964.
The destroyer left Bremerton around 8:30 a.m. and passed through the Locks around 2 p.m. It's on its way to Lake Union Drydock for maintenance.
Since being decommissioned in 1982, the ship is available for tours after the work is completed in March.
