FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A Washington State Patrol trooper was involved in a shooting Wednesday evening in south King County.
The exchange occurred around 8 p.m. on SR 161 in Federal Way and ended at a Costco at 35100 Enchanted Parkway South. The trooper did not sustain any injuries.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) provided an update on Thursday morning, saying a trooper attempted to pull a man, 34, over for a traffic stop when a confrontation occurred between the man and the trooper.
The man crashed into at least one car, WSP said, before the trooper shot the man.
The driver was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.
The trooper involved has been placed on administrative leave following the incident, per WSP policy.
The force team said it is in contact with the family of the man who was shot and providing them updates.
Under state law, independent agencies are required to investigate when an officer uses force. The King County independent force investigation team is made up of investigators from 13 King County police departments.
