Man severely burned in Sammamish apartment fire
SAMMAMISH, Wash. - A man was severely burned in a Friday morning fire at an apartment complex near Challenger Elementary School in Sammamish, officials said.
Fire crews and medics responded to the scene, the Tanglewood Apartments in the 25000 block of SE Klahanie Boulevard, at about 5:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames at a third-floor unit there.
A man inside the apartment was pulled out with severe burns, said an Eastside Fire and Rescue official. He is believed to be about 40 years old. His condition was not immediately available.
The fire activated a residential sprinkler system, which helped to keep the flames from spreading. Firefighters finished extinguishing the blaze.
Officials at the scene said it appeared that the fire started in or near a couch, but the exact cause was not yet known.
