Uber giving Seattleites a shot at riding a hovercraft... for science!

Hoverboat test ride spotted by Bob Smart near Alki Beach in March of 2016.

SEATTLE -- Anyone hailing an eco-friendly Uber ride in the Seattle area is getting a chance to enter and win a guided tour aboard a hovercraft on Puget Sound.

Uber's hovercraft was originally spotted on a test run near Alki in March by Bob Smart who said, "the boat pulled into the dock several times while a film crew and observers looked on."

What's the deal with Uber's latest promotion?

Climate change awareness, says the Climate Adaptation Project.

"With sea levels on the rise, we've imagined what commuting might look like in 100 years," the organization says on their website.

The promotion runs from June 28 through July 7, and you have to get a promo code and enter via the Uber app within the Seattle-area to win.

Lucky winners will carpool to West Seattle, where an EcoAdapt scientist awaits. The scientist will take a guided tour with the winners and guests, pointing out potential affected areas and sharing information about the future of climate changes in Seattle.

Are you an eco-minded individual in Seattle who's interested in taking a ride?

Here's how:

First you'll need to download or open the Uber app. Then, enter the promo code HOVER in the app. Select uberX and choose "share your car" for uberPOOL anytime from Tuesday, June 28 at 7:00 a.m. through Thursday, July 7 at 11:59 p.m. and you'll be entered into the sweepstakes. Official rules and information can be found on the CAP Seattle website.
