Two killed in crash on U.S. 2 near Snohomish

NEAR SNOHOMISH, Wash. - Two people were killed in a three-car crash that shut down U.S. 2 near Snohomish Monday night, according to the State Patrol.

The crash happened around 10:00 p.m. near Three Lakes Road, and according to the state patrol, the driver of one of the vehicles crossed over the center line and struck another vehicle head-on, killing both drivers. A third vehicle was following the car that was struck head-on, and that car ran into the back of the vehicle it was following. There were five people in the third vehicle, and none of them were injured. No other occupants were in the cars of the drivers who died.

It's unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

U.S. 2 was closed for several hours while troopers investigated. The roadway was cleared at about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.
