Teen boy, 14, dies after accidentally shot by friend in Burien
BURIEN, Wash. - A 14-year-old boy has died after being accidentally shot by his 16-year-old friend in Burien Tuesday night, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
The shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. at a home along 12th Ave. S. between S. 124th and S. 128th streets.
Deputies said the boys were inside a bedroom playing with a handgun when the 16-year-old shot the other boy.
Investigators said the boy was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition, where he later died.
The Sheriff's office said the 16-year-old is currently in custody and being interviewed by detectives to determine if any charges will be filed.
"I think the important thing to remind everybody is guns aren't toys and they're dangerous if proper firearm safety rules are not applied," said Sgt. Ryan Abbott with the King County Sheriff's Office.
Major Crimes Detectives are now investigating and interviewing witnesses. They're also trying to find out who owns the gun.
