Suspect arrested after police chase, car crash near Northgate

SEATTLE -- Police say a man firing a gun near the Northgate Mall led officers on a police chase Friday before crashing his car and attempting to make a getaway on foot.

Several people called police Friday afternoon to report the sound of gunshots being fired near 5th Avenue NE and NE Northgate Way. Officers arrived on scene moments later and found a man believed to be the shooter.

Police say the suspect saw officers approaching and sped off in a green Volvo. The officers gave chase, and the brief pursuit ended in the 100 block of NE 80th Street when the suspect crashed his car and took off running.

Officers, including a K9 unit, scoured the neighborhood but weren't initially able to find the man. They eventually tracked down and arrested the suspect, who was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Police have not said if the man was injured in the crash or during the arrest.

Police haven't found any shooting victims or received any additional reports about crime in the area.
