SPANAWAY, Wash. -- Pierce County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a suspect fleeing the scene of a robbery at a Walmart in Spanaway early Monday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., police received a call reporting an armed robbery at the Walmart on 20307 Mountain Hwy. E., where a male suspect wearing a camouflage outfit entered and demanded money while armed with a gun.

According to the sheriff's department, the suspect robbed cashiers and then proceeded to walk around with his weapon inside the store. A responding deputy contacted him as he was leaving the store, and the suspect refused to listen to the deputy's demands to surrender.

As the suspect ran toward the deputy, shots were fired and the suspect ran westbound away from the store. As he was running, two other deputies him and more shots were fired. It's unclear how many times the suspect was struck by gunfire, but the suspect was found dead in some bushes in the woods near the Shell gas station across from the Walmart.
