Spokane high school students to watch space mission
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Students at a high school in Spokane plan to watch a mission to the International Space Station featuring one of the school's graduates.
Lt. Col. Anna McClain is a crew member of NASA's Expedition 58 to the International Space Station. The mission is expected to launch Monday.
The Spokesman-Review reports that Gonzaga Prep is holding a "launch day" event Monday. Students plan to watch McClain's landing on the International Space Station from their classrooms.
McClain graduated from the high school in 1997. Her math teacher and softball coach was invited to watch the launch from Houston.
The teacher, Shari Manikowski, says she's stayed connected to McClain and is in awe of what she has accomplished. She says it's been a gift to watch McClain's journey.
