PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Officials say a 24-year-old man is still unaccounted for after a small boat capsized in Burley Lagoon. At about 6:40 P.M. Friday firefighters were called to a capsized boat near the Purdy Spit Bridge. Tacoma Fire Department told KOMO News two other males were in the boat and were able to get out of the water on their own.
Several search boats are on scene, as well as a helicopter in the air searching.
Divers were brought in, but didn't spend much time in the water because conditions were bad. Tacoma fire said the current in the water is too strong for divers.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is available.
