I-5 reopens in Portland after semi truck carrying trail mix crashes

PORTLAND, Ore. — A semi truck loaded with trail mix crashed and landed on its side overnight in Portland, Ore., shutting down all lanes of northbound Interstate 5 for several hours on Friday morning.

The wreckage has now been cleared, and the freeway has reopened.

Police and firefighters initially responded to ths scene, near SW Terwilliger Boulevard, at about 2:30 a.m. Friday after receiving reports of a semi rig crashing.

The truck was carrying trail mix, and crews had to unload it all by hand. Meanwhile, a tow crew worked to get the semi tractor and trailer back on their wheels.

The wreckage was cleared from the scene and all lanes of northbound I-5 reopened at the scene at around 8:30 a.m.

The driver was not injured and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
