Seattle City Hall lit up in red to honor mayor's MLS Cup friendly bet with Toronto
SEATTLE - Many downtown Seattle buildings are lit up in red and green this month for the holidays. But, Seattle's City Hall was illuminated all in red Wednesday night, not for the holiday season, but to honor a bet.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and Toronto's Mayor, John Tory made a friendly bet ahead of the MLS Cup match last weekend between Sounders FC and Toronto FC.
The Sounders lost 2-0 in that match.
As part of the losing side of the bet, Seattle's City Hall had to be lit up in red - which is Toronto FC's color. Mayor Durkan also had to wear a Toronto FC scarf and send Mayor Tory a basket of northwest goods including: Starbucks, Beecher's Homemade Cheese, Oberto Jerky and Totem Smokehouse salmon.
Mayor Durkan tweeted a video on Wednesday of her wearing the scarf and holding the basket of goodies. But she added that she's confident the Sounders will bring the cup back to Seattle next year.
