Search crews recover body of young Monroe woman who tumbled over waterfall
MONROE, Wash. - Search-and-rescue teams have recovered the body of a young Monroe woman who tumbled over the falls at Cedar Ponds Lake on April 12.
Searchers and family members looking for 22-year-old Jazmine Weitlauf discovered her body around noon Saturday in waters thick with logs and tree debris, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.
The recovery effort took several hours to get her out of the water and canyon, investigators said. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will provide positive identification and the cause of death.
Friends had reported Weitlauf missing around 6 p.m. on the 12th and Swiftwater rescue teams and other volunteers searched the area for several hours but were unable to find her. Search volunteers and family members had kept up the search since then.
Officials said more than 20 search and rescue volunteers were on hand for the search and recovery on Saturday.
