SEATTLE - An intensive monthslong search has ended with the arrest of the suspect in a mass shooting in Westlake last November that injured five people, police said.
Mark Jamieson of the Seattle police said detectives arrested the suspect on an outstanding $1 million assault warrant just after 7 p.m. Tuesday and booked him into the King County Jail.
Jamieson said the suspect, identified earlier as Alrick Hollingsworth Jr., 19, turned himself in to police as investigators were making progress in tracking him down. He is charged with five counts of first-degree felony assault.
The shooting unfolded at about 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 9 near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Pine Street. Seattle police officers and King County sheriff’s deputies rushed to the scene after hearing gunfire.
Five shooting victims were found on the street in front of a convenience store and at an adjacent bus stop.
One man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. The four other victims - one woman and three men - were transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, meanwhile, had fled. An anonymous tip, witness descriptions and surveillance video footage led to his identification.
An investigation found that the suspect had gotten into an argument with another man near the corner of 3rd Avenue and Pine Street. As the two started walking away from each other, investigators said the suspect turned back, pulled out a gun, and started shooting into the crowd.
