KELSO, Wash. – A man wanted for a prior stabbing and theft is at large after stealing a police patrol car from the officers who came to arrest him, Kelso police said.

Officers tried taking 22-year-old Shane S. Goldsby into custody on Douglas Street in Kelso shortly after midnight Sunday. They said Goldsby was wanted for an earlier stabbing assault that is still under investigation.

Goldsby fled into a brushy area near the road and then circled back to the still-running patrol car, police said.

He fled in the vehicle before police could catch him.

He then led multiple law enforcement agencies on a pursuit and at one point rammed a Washington State Patrol vehicle, police said.

Investigators found the vehicle in the 1900 block of Teresa Way in Kelso around 3:30 a.m., but Goldsby had fled the area on foot and was long gone.

Goldsby is wanted for two counts of felony assault, theft in the first degree and several hit and runs.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact the Kelso Police Department at 360-423-1270.
