PROSSER, Wash. - A Buckley woman was shot and killed by a friend over the weekend near the Central Washington town of Prosser, police said.

The victim, identified as Amanda Hill, 35, apparently was shot during a fight between her and her friend, police said. The friend, a 36-year-old Prosser woman, remained with Hill after the Saturday morning shooting and is now under arrest.

Prosser police and a Benton County sheriff's deputy responded to the scene, in the area of 140000 North River Road in Prosser, after a 911 call came in about shots fired.

When they arrived, they say they found Hill's friend holding her in her arms. Police say Hill was bleeding, but had no pulse and was not breathing.

The deputy and the Prosser officer tried CPR, but Hill died.

Police officials say they determined she had been shot with a handgun during a fight between the two women.

The friend was taken to jail and booked for investigation of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

Hill's relatives said Sunday the family is in shock over the deadly shooting.

Hill's aunt, Pamela Grant, described her niece as sweet, outgoing, caring, very loving - and stubborn.

Grant said Hill grew up in Covington, in King County, and leaves behind a large, loving family, including a son.

She adds that she isn't sure how well Hill knew the woman accused of shooting her, but doesn't think an alleged "best friend" would have turned a gun on her niece.

"We're trying to dig deep for some forgiveness, but that's going to take a little bit more time," Grant said. "We are praying for the other girl's family. I can't imagine what her mom is going through, and we do know that she had sons. And I can't imagine how her sons are feeling right now."

Grant said the family hopes someone with more information will contact the Benton County Sheriff's Office, because right now they have more questions than answers.

"One thing is for sure," she said, "Amanda will be missed."
