CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Washington are trying to determine whether an early morning shooting in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant that sent three men to the hospital was connected to a fight involving dozens of people.

The shooting happened Saturday morning in Cheney, southwest of Spokane.

Police Captain Rick Beghtol says two of the men sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and a third is in critical condition. All three are in their 20s and from outside the Cheney area.

No names have been released, and Beghtol says no suspects have been identified.

The town of 12,000 is home to Eastern Washington University, where it's homecoming weekend.

Beghtol says earlier in the morning, a massive fight broke out in a crowd of about 500 people at a party.

Beghtol says Cheney has for unknown reasons become a party spot for out-of-towners alerted through social media. He says giant, alcohol-fueled crowds show up every couple of weeks.
