MOUNT VERNON, Wash, -- Residents of a home destroyed by fire near here early Saturday morning have not all been accounted for, the Skagit County Sheriff's Office says.

There has been no official confirmation, but a neighbor says two children may have died in the fire

Doug Peterson, a firefighter and neighbor, said he drove by the house on his way to the fire station. He said flames covered the house.

"It was fully involved, there was flames covering the entire front of the house all the way up over the roof just solid flames and I looked right them and knew there was no survivability in this fire."

He said a man ran up to him and said he got out but two children didn't.

“He said there are children in the house,” Peterson said. “I say to him, ‘Did everybody get out OK?’ and his answer was, ‘no, no.’”

The Sheriff's Office has not confirmed any deaths in the fire,

Several people who lived in the home were taken for medical treatment, but the Sheriff's Office says not everyone who is thought to have been in the home in the 13000 block of Bayview Road has been accounted for.

Fire units went to the home at 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Saturday night, crews from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the scene of the fire.
