SEATTLE — Homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death after a woman walking a dog reported finding a body in north Seattle Sunday morning.
According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), officers were dispatched just before 10 a.m. Sunday to a report of a man down near the intersection of Northeast 40th Street and 4th Avenue Northeast. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man dead.
Kiaya Frieson told KOMO News she was walking her family’s dog Max when she and her wife saw a man who wasn't moving and tried helping him.
“I saw him out of the corner of my eye and thought, ‘This guy really does not look alive,’” Frieson said. “My wife and I just called 911 and waited until (police) came.”
Another neighbor told KOMO News he believes the man who died had been living in a tent for at least a month. The neighbor said the man had not caused any problems in the neighborhood.
Residents in the area told KOMO News they heard what sounded like gunfire around 3 a.m. and called police. But, a SPD Blotter post says officers weren’t dispatched to the area until around 10 a.m. The reason for the alleged delayed police response to the gunfire is unclear. KOMO News is also working to determine if the victim died by gunfire.
The SPD has not released any additional information about the man who was killed or a possible motive. No suspect information has been released at this time.
The SPD Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
