Norovirus outbreak sickens 39 at Tacoma senior living facility
TACOMA, Wash. - At least 39 people have been sickened by an outbreak of the highly contagious norovirus at a Tacoma senior living center, health officials said.
The disease has quickly spread since it was first detected last Thursday at the Narrows Glen, located at 8201 6th Avenue in Tacoma.
By Tuesday, some 28 residents and 11 staff members had been stricken. Symptoms include diarrhea, nausea and stomach pain.
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is working with the facility to eradicate the virus through intense cleaning and by limiting contact between residents.
A total of 200 people live at the senior living facility.
