Motorcyclist is dead after being ejected, run over by semi on I-5
TUMWATER, Wash. - A motorcyclist was run over by a semi truck and two other vehicles after he was thrown from his motorcycle on Interstate 5 overnight in Thurston County, the Washington State Patrol reports.
The motorcyclist, identified as a 36-year-old Rainier man, was killed in the crash. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
State troopers responded to the scene, in the northbound lanes of I-5 about three miles south of Tumwater, at around 11:05 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a serious accident.
The motorcyclist's body and a crashed 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle were found.
A preliminary investigation found that the motorcyclist was merging onto northbound I-5 from 93rd Avenue when he suddenly crossed all lanes of the freeway, veered off the pavement to the left and was thrown from the motorcycle, landing in the middle lane.
He was then run over by three vehicles - a passenger car, a 2018 International semi truck and a third unknown vehicle.
I-5 was closed at the scene for about 3 1/2 hours during the cleanup and investigation of the crash.
