Man kills woman at Seattle Center 'to make a better life for his son,' he tells detectives
SEATTLE — Gabrielle Garcia, 28, died as a result of her injuries after being stabbed at the Seattle Center Friday evening.
Family and friend confirmed the sad news to KOMO News on Saturday.
A spokesperson at Harborview said the 28-year-old died Friday evening as a result of her injuries from the stabbing.
In court documents, the suspect, David Lee Morris, said he admitted to killing Garcia.
On Friday, he was arrested and booked into King County jail for first degree murder.
Morris said he was the father of a 5-year-old son who witnessed the stabbing. The 30-year-old said he and Garcia had experienced relationship problems over the past few years, according to court documents acquired by KOMO News.
On October 9, Garcia filed a protection order against Morris, according to King County superior court documents.
David Lee Morris told detectives he killed Garcia “to make a better life for his son.”
KOMO’s Patrick Quinn spoke with Garcia’s dad, Joe Garcia, who did not want to talk on-camera, but said the young boy will be raised by his family.
Neighbors described Garcia as “delightful” and “well-liked.”
“Look, it’s heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking for everybody. She was just a sweet kid and she grew into a young woman who had taken control of her life,” said John Healy, who lives across the street from the Madrona home he said Garcia grew up in.
“She was a loving kid growing up and was always willing to cross the street and have a conversation with you,” Healy said.
The court set Morris’ next court appearance for Monday afternoon.
