SEATTLE - Seattle Police are searching for two men who attacked a man with a hatchet outside a McDonalds in Downtown Seattle Wednesday night.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. near 3rd Ave. and Pine Street.

Witnesses told police a blue sedan pulled up at two men got out - one carrying a hatchet, the other carrying a baseball bat.

The two men exchanged words with a crowd standing on the sidewalk. The men then attacked a man in the crowd with the hatchet, then drove off, Seattle Police said.

Seattle Fire said the victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police don't have a good description yet of the attackers. Officers searched the area for the blue sedan but came up empty.

Investigators are still looking into whether the attackers knew their victim.
