UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – A suspect is behind bars after a University Place shooting.

Police say they were called Wednesday night at 9:30 for a man who was shot in the 5600 block of Hannah Pierce Rd. W.

There were already officers in the area who were able to immediately find the victim outside an apartment.

The victim, 22, was rushed to a hospital. The investigation so far says the victim was shot when the suspect knocked on his door while looking for someone. The suspect, however, opened fire through the door when the victim answered.

The suspect was identified quickly and Tacoma police found him when they were called to another disturbance there.

Officials say the 23-year-old suspect was interviewed and booked into the Pierce Co. Jail for assault in the first degree.
