SEATTLE - A man was arrested in downtown Seattle this week after allegedly attaching a skimming device to an ATM, Seattle police say.
Officers responded to reports of a suspicious man near an ATM in Pike Place Market Friday night and found the man still in the area.
Skimming devices copy data from people's bank cards and allows the device owner to steal the card owner's information.
Nearby bank security told police that the man had attached a skimming device to the ATM. Officers arrested the man and turned him over to Major Crimes detectives.
Detectives found the man's hotel room in Bellevue and discovered equipment and materials used to steal bank and credit card information.
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail.
Officers say that before using an ATM, customers should always check to ensure there are no extra devices attached to the machine.
