A Kentwood High School student was arrested Wednesday after she may have used a weapon to threaten another student, according to the King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO).

The sheriff’s office said the incident happened just after 10 a.m. and the school was placed on lockdown. The KCSO told KOMO News the lockdown was lifted before noon.

"Well, I assumed the worst, like this is an actual school shooter," James Armstrong, a freshman at Kentwood HS, said. "Two girls started fighting, and one of them had a gun, and like they were out in the woods for some reason, and then like once everybody found out, they put us into lockdown and tried to find the girls."

The Covington police chief told KOMO News crews at the scene there was an argument between the two students, a possible assault occurred, and the student who was detained may face a felony assault charge.

"Both students from the incident returned to campus," Covington Police Chief Adam Easterbrook said. "One's been detained, the other one's obviously cooperating with us, the school's lifted the lockdown, and we're still investigating."

The KCSO said there was no threat to the public or the school.Sheriff’s deputies and K9 units were searching a wooded area near the school for weapons. Students also told KOMO News at least one class had their bags searched for possible weapons. As of Wednesday afternoon, no weapons have been found in the area.

"We're in class and all we hear is just 'Lockdown, lockdown alarm,'" Keola Agemotu, a student at Kentwood HS said. "It was rough for a lot of people because I was in a library, and I was hiding in this like little spot in the corner, and it was rough for like an hour or so."

Kentwood students also shared they were put on lockdown for another similar incident recently, but the Kent School District would not confirm the details of that incident or this latest lockdown.

Earlier this month, Kentridge High School nearby was also put on lockdownafter an armed carjacker who was a minor ran into the school.

The KCSO confirmed the 16-year-old student was booked into juvenile detention on felony assault Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries have been reported, and the incident remains under investigation.
