KENT, Wash. — A Federal Way woman was killed waiting at a bus stop as a result of a hit-and-run on Tuesday.
According to the Kent Police Department (KPD), officers responded to a collision near 4th Avenue Northwest and James Street in Kent around 4:40 p.m. A 63-year-old woman was found unconscious in the road, and officers began life-saving efforts, police said. Medics arrived shortly after and took over aid, but the woman died at the scene, according to police.
Witnesses told police the woman was standing near the bus stop on the north side of James Street, west of 4th Avenue, when a suspect drove off the road and onto the sidewalk, hitting a light pole and then the victim, KPD said. The suspect vehicle was described as a dark-colored sedan, which drove off after the collision, police said.
Kent traffic investigators are conducting the investigation and are "analyzing the evidence and witness accounts to identify the vehicle and the suspect," KPD wrote on Facebook.
