One killed in collision on South Whidbey Island

Washington State Patrol says one person was killed after the vehicle they were in was hit head-on while driving along SR 525 near Clinton.

State Patrol says the driver of a Ford Explorer was driving northbound on SR 525 Saturday afternoon when they crossed the center line and hit a Mercedes head-on.

The passenger in the Mercedes died at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was transported to an area hospital. Washington State Patrol identified the passenger as Sharon Gamble from Everett.

Troopers say they believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. The driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
