Hunter loses record-setting trophy buck over bogus claim

The 8-point mule deer taken in the Steens Mountain Unit in 2015 measured 1st that year for Non-Typical Archery Mule Deer and 8th all-time in the state of Oregon at the Northwest Sportsman Show. But as Oregon State Police investigated the hunter in May 2018 in connection to other crimes, they learned the record-setting deer had been shot with a rifle. The hunter had claimed to have taken the deer during archery season, with a valid archery tag. (OSP)
