2 showered in glass as truck crashes into Tacoma restaurant
TACOMA, Wash. -- A pickup truck driver smashed into the front of a restaurant during lunchtime in Tacoma Monday, Tacoma police said.
Bonnie Helms, a nurse at nearby Tacoma General Hospital, was at the Shari's Restaurant on S. 72nd Street just after 1 p.m. when the Ford F-250 jumped the curb. The truck continued forward and crashed into the building near where a 92-year-old woman and her 63-year-old son were sitting.
Helms applied aid until medics arrived.
"They were covered in glass, but other than the son getting cut, they were OK," Helms said.
Medics treated the two at the scene and they did not need to be taken to a local hospital, according to Loretta Cool with Tacoma Police. No one else was hurt.
Cool said the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake.
