TACOMA, Wash. - The Pierce County deputy who died in the line of duty Sunday night was honored with a solemn early morning processional, and condolences are pouring in from law enforcement agencies and fire districts all over the region.

At about 4:20 a.m. Monday, a flag-covered coffin with the body of 34-year-old Deputy Daniel McCartney was wheeled into the back of a Pierce County medical examiner's van, passing between two ranks of officers.

His body was then driven from St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma to the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office. Accompanying him were dozens of law enforcement vehicles.

McCartney, a three-year veteran of the force, leaves behind a wife and three young boys, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said. He previously served in the U.S. Navy and was a police officer in Hoquiam for six years.

Meanwhile, condolences are pouring in from all over.
