Driver apparently loses control, crashes car into Seattle's Northwest Hospital
SEATTLE -- Crews are cleaning up after a Honda Accord crashed into a lobby adjacent the waiting room of the emergency department at Northwest Hospital in North Seattle Thursday evening.
“I heard big noise and chairs started flying,” said Marian Lech, who was grabbing a drink at the coffee shop when the car went past and hit the building.
The car apparently went across the courtyard in front of the entrance, hit a pole and bounced to the left -- right into a lobby that is next to the the waiting room for the ER. The damage appeared to be extensive with the car stopping at the reception desk.
“It sounded like somebody was running over something out here and hit a table and chairs and then all of a sudden this big crash," said Kathy, a witness who declined to give her last name.
The man driving the Accord is under treatment at the hospital. He is listed in satisfactory condition. Police say there were no obvious signs of impairment, but additional tests will be run.
Staff and patients were not injured.
A hospital spokesperson tells KOMO News the hospital and the emergency department are fully operational, although they had to divert any new patients for about an hour and a half while investigators were still processing the crash scene.
