LANGLEY, Wash. (KOMO) - Newly released photos show the mangled wreckage of Seattle rapper Macklemore's car after a head-on crash with a pickup July 28 in the Whidbey Island town of Langley.

The photos, obtained by KOMO News from the Washington State Patrol through the Open Records Act, show that Macklemore and his two passengers were lucky to make it through the crash unscathed.

The front of Macklemore's Mercedes was heavily damaged in the crash with a 1986 Chevy pickup.

Trooper Heather Axtman said the driver of the pickup is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the crash. Officials are awaiting the results of a toxicology test before deciding whether to charge the pickup driver with DUI.

Axtman said the pickup driver was rounding a bend at about 10:45 p.m. on July 28 when he veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into Macklemore's 2016 S-Class Mercedes.

The pickup driver, a 24-year-old man, sustained minor injuries in the crash. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Macklemore had two passengers in his car. All three of them walked away from the accident.

Axtman says Macklemore's license had been suspended over an unpaid ticket at the time of the crash. She says he has since paid the ticket and his license is no longer suspended.

Macklemore, 34, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, has collaborated with producer Ryan Lewis to produce a number of hits. The duo's single "Thrift Shop" reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 2013.
