Clipper yacht sailor makes history in Seattle, completes epic journey
SEATTLE - A Utah man made history in Seattle on Sunday, as he and the crew of the Visit Seattle sailing yacht cruised into Elliott Bay.
Martin Frey, 56, became the first person to climb the seven summits (the highest summits on each continent) and sail the seven seas of the world.
Frey finished the final leg of his achievement during the Visit Seattle team's 27-day trip from Qingdao, China to Seattle as part of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
A cheering crowd welcomed the team to the Emerald City while the yacht docked at Seattle's Bell Street pier.
"Thank you, glad to be here, in Seattle," Frey shouted to the crowd.
He also thanked the Clipper organization for helping make his dream happen.
"It's a great experience, anyone can do this," Frey said. "You just have to sign on and be willing to take on a great adventure and have a great attitude and your dream of crossing an ocean will come true."
Frey's 11-year journey collectively spans more than 35,000 nautical miles and more than 14.5 miles in elevation.
