RENTON, Wash. - Crews scrambled to save nearby homes from a fire that erupted after a car plowed into a 500-gallon propane tank late Monday near Renton, emergency officials said.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene, east of Renton in the 18000 block of 197th Avenue, at about 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash and fire.
A 500-gallon propane tank was found spewing flames when first responders arrived.
Firefighters sprayed down the tank with water from fire hoses to cool it and prevent the flames from spreading as the leaking propane burned.
The condition of the driver who crashed the car was not immediately available.
