SEATTLE -- Several Seattle business owners are worried they could be out thousands of dollars after a fashion show was unexpectedly cancelled last weekend.
Business owner Tannya Bernadette Wilson spent time and money prepping for the Ferraris and Fashion event. The show was scheduled to take place on Saturday in Seattle, but the organizer unexpectedly pulled the plug on Friday.
On Monday, Wilson dressed models and organized a photo shoot as a gesture to make up for someone else's decision that let other local small businesses and participants down.
"I really did not want to disappoint the boutiques," she said. "We put so much work into it."
Wilson, like many other business owners, didn't find out the fashion event was cancelled until Friday afternoon. People involved say flowers, linens, food and wine, all the things to make the event a success, had already been ordered.
"I was heartbroken," Wilson said. "More than upset, more heartbroken."
The event was organized by Drew Morrison and his company, CityGuru. Morrison did not respond to numerous phone calls or email requests for comment about why the event was called off at the last minute.
But CityGuru's publicist did send an email to KOMO's web partner,
Seattle Refined, explaining ticket sales were low, the show was more complex than originally planned, and that Morrison would process refunds as invoices are submitted.
But the lack of notice and dollars invested leaves many unanswered questions.
"And none of us have answers," said Wilson. "So it's hard, because they're coming to me expecting that I would know all the answers and I really don't. I feel bad that I don't have something I can tell them."
There's also the issue of tickets already sold. CityGuru's website says tickets will be refunded, but gives no explanation to ticket holders as to how to get their money back.
