SEATTLE — A man was shot and killed at an apartment building blocks away from the University of Washington campus in Seattle, according to the Seattle Police Department (SPD). The SPD said a suspect is now in custody.
After initial reports of a shooting, crews found a man's body with a gunshot wound in one of the lobbies of the apartment complex when they arrived at the scene, according to SPD Public Information Officer Shawn Weismiller.
Weismiller said when officers arrived at Arbora Court Apartments at 4750 15th Ave North, they were able to quickly identify a suspect and that man is now in police custody.
Weismiller said homicide detectives and the crime scene investigation unit are investigating what led up to the shooting.
The relationship between the suspect and victim is not yet clear, and the SPD has not yet released the ages of either man.
"Both officers, detectives, crime scene investigators, they're looking for any evidence that can piece together the clues to understand exactly how this started and how it turned into a shooting," Weismiller said.
Neighbors KOMO News talked to said they were shocked to hear about what happened. They said this area is generally safe but are now shaken up after learning of the shooting.
"It’s really weird to think that we are in a very good place and apparently I’m not up until right now, it’s sad," said Karthika, who lives in the apartments right in front of where the shooting occurred.
There is no ongoing threat to the public, Weismiller said.
